Event Management: Websites

How do I evaluate a website?

Websites are good for keeping up to date, especially in the fast moving world of computing.

But... approach with caution! Anyone can publish on the web, so it's important to check information on the web in terms of:

  • Authority - does the author know what they're talking about? How expert is he/she in the field?
  • Currency - is the information in or our of date?
  • Purpose - why was the website created? Beware of bias.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar looks and feels like Google Search, but the results are different because it searches scholarly papers instead of general websites.

You can link Google Scholar to DkIT Library's resources to make it easier to find material we subscribe to.
To do this in Google Scholar, click Settings, then click Library links. Type in "Dundalk Institute of Technology" and click the Search icon. DkIT should appear in the list. Put a tick beside it and click Save.
