Research Data Management: Data Management Plan

This guide will assist researchers in planning for the various stages of managing their research data and in preparing data management plans required with funding proposals.

Funders are increasingly requiring grant applicants to submit data management plans (DMPs) with their grant proposals, in an effort to promote data sharing and responsible stewardship of data by researchers.

Writing a DMP

DMPs typically address:

  • The types of data to be collected
  • Data format, including data and metadata standards
  • Plans for sharing data, including policies affecting access and reuse of the data by other researchers
  • Plans for archiving and preserving the data

Examples of DMPs can be found at DCC and Horizon PMP template

DMP Tool

DMP Tool Creates data management plans that meet institutional and funder requirements.

The DMPOnline tool provides an excellent, free template for the drafting of your Horizon2020 DMP and is strongly recommended. This useful resource allows you to create, store and share a DMP.

Orcid iD

As a researcher you can register for your own Orcid iD.

ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier (an ORCID iD) that you own and control, and that distinguishes you from every other researcher. from every other researcher.
