To help you manage your account effectively, avoid fines and to obtain study resources, the Library sends you different email notifications to your student email address.
Courtesy notices are sent prior to the due date and on the day loans are due, they are just a courtesy reminder and will not be re-sent if they cannot be delivered to your email account. You are responsible for ensuring that your items are renewed or returned on time as overdue charges will be applied.
Reservation notifications alert you via email when your reserved item/s are available to collect.
To be fair to other users, if you return items late, fines start to accrue on your account, the amount per hour/day depends on the type of item.
Be careful, if you owe €5 or more you will be prevented from borrowing or accessing any of our online resources until you bring the fine below €5. If you have large outstanding fees/ and or books long overdue you may not be able to register for courses or access your graduation transcripts.
To avoid such situations we recommend you return books on time and pay outstanding fees promptly.
You need your Student ID Card to borrow. Bring your item to the Library Desk or the Self-Service Machine.
You cannot borrow if you have fines of €5 or more or long overdue items.
Students can borrow books, DVDs, CDs, laptops, headphones and phone chargers.
How many items can I borrow?
As well as books it is possible to borrow phone chargers, laptops and Kindles.
For how long can I keep items?
Some items are for short loan (1 night), 4 day loan and 7 day loan. These items are marked with the loan time. All other items can be kept for 3 weeks.
What if I need the item for longer?
Most items will renew automatically.
What happens if the book I need is checked out to someone else?
Find the book on the catalogue and use the "Place hold" button. If you don't place a hold, the book will automatically renew and it may take some time for it to be returned.
When you place a hold we will email you when the book is ready for collection from the Library Information Desk.
What can I do if the Library does not have the book I need?
If the Library does not own any copies of a book you need you may be able to access it from another library.
You don’t need your Library card to return items.
There are several ways to return items:
Return an item on or before its due date, otherwise, fines will be applied.
The library has an automatic renewal system, books will automatically renew up to 7 times, as long as no other student has requested your book(s), the due date will be automatically updated.
If someone else places a hold on the item, or if it has been renewed the maximum number of times, you’ll receive an email asking you to return it.
