Welcome to this Guide on Statistics and where to find them in DkIT Library.

Statistical Yearbook of Ireland
Annual publication from CSO detailing main economic and social statistics.
This can be a good starting point for investigating and can give a surprisingly wide level of data.
Population
Data from the most recent census of population. It will include data on location, education, income, religion, gender, as well as population of towns and counties. The census is usually collected every 5 years and new questions can be added.
IMF Economic Data Ireland
Includes data on borrowing, interest rates, GDP, debt, assets, and exchange rates

As with everything it's worth keeping a few things in mind when looking at statistics.

Ask:

Who collected the data?

What was the data collected for?

What and/or who is actually being counted?

What is the time lag between collection and publication? Does that time lag matter?

How was the data collected and how reliable is that method?
