Library Training: Research and Information Skills


Research and Information Skills (RIS) classes teach a wide range of skills vital for students at all levels. See below for a description of face-to-face classes offered.

Bookable classes

- Tour

- First Steps
An introduction to the library and quality information resources. Designed for 1st year students or those unfamiliar with library resources and/or finding quality information. Find out more and book a class here.

- Next Steps

An in-depth tutorial on finding, understanding and evaluating academic information for assignments. Designed for 2nd year to postgraduate students who are familiar with the library and have a basic understanding of academic resources. Find out more and book a class here.

- Harvard Referencing Introduction

An introduction to DkIT’s Harvard referencing style and why referencing is important. Designed for students who are familiar with the library and have a basic understanding of academic resources (books, journal articles, websites). Find out more and book a class here.

- Customised Class

If there are elements of library information and research you would like to focus on, which are not covered by other classes we offer, you can book a customised session for a catered class tailored to your information needs. Find out more and book a class here.

- One-to-One Consultation

Book a one-to-one consultation with a library subject liaison to look at specific information-related issues you have in your research, essays, or assignments. Find out more and book a session here.

- Mendeley Reference Manager

Our Mendeley tutorial is self-paced and available on the Moodle Hub. We can facilitate a Q&A/practice workshop for groups who have completed the lesson online and can help you with your specific Mendeley questions. Email with queries.

- Academic Integrity in DkIT

Offered as a self-paced Moodle lesson on the Library Hub. Students will be awarded a Moodle Digital Badge when they successfully complete the lesson. Find out more here

Lunchtime classes

Lunchtime Classes are offered throughout the academic year.

Click the class name on the calendar for more information.

Students can come along to any class; no need to pre-book unless a large group wishes to attend. Classes are held in the Library and students are asked to bring their own laptops.
