The Information Cycle

In the moments after an event the Information Cycle begins. The cycle continues in the hours, days, weeks and months after the event. It includes information about the event over time across all media formats.

Why use library resources?

When doing a third-level assignment, you will need to show an element of research, justify its context, and discuss results.

The Library contains both print and online resources. The Library pays for these and allows students to access free them of charge. These are good quality resources as they:

  • have gone through an editorial process
  • have been chosen by your lecturers
  • are unlikely to be available for free via Google

You will need to evaluate any information you plan to use in your coursework. Our guide to Evaluating Your Sources will help.

How books are ordered in the library

Dewey decimal classification is the system we use to arrange books in the library. Each book is assigned a call number which is a series of numbers followed by letters. The dewey decimal system arranges books by subject. The longer the number, the more specific the subject. Numbers are arranged numerically and letters alphabetically to help you easily find what you're looking for.
